Long Summary
Garou continues beating down Superalloy Darkshine. He slips past one of Darkshine's punches and lands a blow that makes the hero cough up blood. Garou taunts him, and Darkshine stares back in fear. The narration recounts Darkshine's past.
As a child, Darkshine was frail and weak, unable to take part in sports or other physical activities. His weakness kept him from building self-confidence. On his 15th birthday, his parents gave him a set of 3-kilogram dumbbells. He trained daily, gradually increasing the weight until what he could lift was extraordinary. His growth built his confidence. He eventually joined the Hero Association and kept searching for an opponent who could push him to his limit.
While Garou keeps pressing his attack, Darkshine realizes he was never seeking a real fight, but one that could give him a satisfying victory. The moment the thought of possible defeat flashes through his mind, the fear he had long buried begins to grow and overwhelm him. In despair, he lashes out, knocking Garou back, but Garou's wounds are marked with dark spirals and heal quickly. Garou kicks him in the stomach, then follows with another kick to his chin, pinning him to the ground. He moves to strike Darkshine's ears but stops when the hero yelps in fear. Garou judges the fight to be nothing more than bullying, a pathetic kind of evil compared to what he wants to become.
Suddenly, Garou's joints start to crack, and the dark marks on his body crawl toward his face. A psychic barrier from Tatsumaki wraps around Darkshine and pulls him upward as the ceiling collapses, leaving Garou under the falling rubble. Rising higher, Darkshine tells Garou to run. As he loses sight of Garou, he hangs his head in shame.
